Four Tips for Creating Healthy Boundaries

Our guest blogger for today, Gini Grey, shares four tips for creating healthy boundaries. Gini is the founder of Celebrate YourSelf, offering Transformational Sessions, Spiritual Energy Awareness audio programs and insightful writing. Her purpose and passion in life is to guide people to live from their center, that place of lightness and bigness. Learn more about Gini at http://www.ginigrey.com/

1. Stay centered and grounded. Being centered and grounded helps release stress. As you interact with others, stay connected to your own inner experience; feel your energy flow through your body, let any foreign energy release down your grounding cord, and stay centered in your own light vibration. Fill up with your own energy vibration until there’s no space for others’ problems and pain, but still room for compassion.

2. Be aware of energy boundaries. Our energy doesn’t end where our skin ends. We each have an electromagnetic field around us called the aura. As you own your aura, you create healthy boundaries around your personal space allowing your own energy to flow freely and prevent others’ energy from entering.

3. Tune into the difference between your emotions and other peoples’. Empaths take on other peoples’ emotions as if they were their own. A friend tells you her husband just filed for divorce and your heart aches. Your brother calls you in a panic about money problems and your stomach twists and turns. You attend a funeral and feel overwhelmed with grief. Like musical notes, each emotion has its own vibration unique to each person. Sadness is lighter than apathy; anger vibrates faster than sadness; amusement feels free and healing; joy is light and bright, and enthusiasm takes you even higher up the scale. Get to know your emotions by feeling them and allowing them to flow. With this awareness you will instantly know when you’ve taken on someone else’s sadness, anger or joy; it won’t feel like yours and it won’t feel comfortable. Then all you have to do is let it go, like taking off a scarf that isn’t yours.

4. Say goodbye to codependent behaviors. With big hearts, caretaking and rescuing becomes the norm for empaths. Instead of sensing and feeling another’s plight, use your clear seeing abilities to look at your loved one’s situation. See who they are beyond their problems and pain; see the spiritual being within who is connected to the Source of all life. Know that just as you have your path to walk, they have theirs. Don’t let their victim mask pull you in to taking on their problems. Toss away pity and sympathy, and give the gift of love by shining a light on others’ bigness. Allow your friends and family to grow, heal, and evolve through their own struggles and triumphs. If you feel tempted to jump in, reflect back on your life to see if you are projecting any of your own unhealed wounds. tal reading devices.

I find myself less and less emotional these days—even when something scary or bad that used to really bother me occurs. After so many years of being an emotional yo-yo, this new calmness is quite refreshing.

If you are facing an upsetting situation that you feel "should" trigger some emotional reaction from you and yet you are completely unmoved, this is a GOOD thing! It sure is a lot better than getting all wigged out with anxiety, depression, or grief! This kind of emotional "numbness" is a sign that you are integrating your past and present experiences and making progress as an empowered empath. It doesn't mean you don't care about someone or something. It means you are seeing them/it from a higher perspective that doesn't get rattled by the illusion of 3-D Earth drama. You are beginning to hold the frequency or vibration of Divine Love in 5-D consciousness.

Try to move past what you expect to be the "normal" response to any situation and simply let yourself feel what you feel (or don't feel) about it. If tears, sadness, or anger come, that's fine. If no emotion comes at all, then give yourself permission to let that be okay too.

Without spending time trying to process what is coming up or discover what past life issue you may be clearing, simply acknowledge the incident and any response (or lack thereof) and move on. The motto I like to use for this is: "I recognize  __[emotion/situation]_____ and I allow it to be integrated, healed, and forgiven at all levels."

Get Off of Auto Pilot and Start Creating Your Life on Purpose

Each of us is responsible for the situations we create, the people we choose to associate with, and the way we live our lives. As powerful spirit beings, we have control over our own energy, body, moods, perspective, and decisions. You can consciously choose to stop taking on other people’s heavy emotions and the negativity generated in crowds and start producing positive energy and thoughts. What you have done in the past has not worked, but you now have the tools to attract positive energy, heal yourself, and create a better life.
Finding freedom from the detrimental thoughts, feelings, and energy around you requires you to be aware of what’s going on with your own energy. The best way to do this is to get off “autopilot” and stop attracting energy by default. How? By regularly spending time in a spiritual effort to raise your vibration. Set aside time each day to ground yourself, get in touch with your own energy, and clear your field. Keep practicing the techniques in this book and try others as well. As you shift your thoughts, attitudes, and emotions in an upward direction, you will naturally start to attract wonderful circumstances into your life.

11-Minute Meditation DVD

Meditation is very helpful for getting centered and getting to know what is going on within you. Many times we get so busy that we forget to check in and sense our own energy. Meditation is the practice of taking the time to be still and listen to the voice within. In meditation we receive guidance, inspiration, ideas, and what I call “downloads” of information that we can use to consciously co-create our life and world. I like to use a candle when I meditate because gazing into the flame quiets my mind and allows me to shut out the distractions around me. I also enjoy burning incense, which helps clear my personal space. It has become so associated with my meditation practice that whenever I smell Nag Champa, I automatically want to stop what I’m doing and get still.

Meditation allows us to receive energy from higher realms and to run our own energy through our chakras. It would be nice to be able to meditate for hours a day, but unless you are a monk or nun you probably have a family to feed, kids to carpool, errands to run, and a career to tend to. If you are willing to take eleven minutes a day to meditate and work on your spiritual self, I highly recommend Twenty Gems, Journey to the Self by Denna Shelton. These DVDs and digital downloads can be played at work, on a laptop computer, and on your iPhone or iPad. The beautiful nature scenery, mesmerizing animations, soothing music, and positive affirmations combine to give a refreshing lift to your spirit.

What is your favorite meditation practice?

Empaths Pick Up Ghost Energy in Public Places

Ranoli is a holistic home inspector, home energy efficiency analyst, and real estate consultant whose mission is to help people heal their hearts and homes. She says that the thoughts and emotions of all who have ever been inside the house or walked on the land become part of the operating system for a property. Combine the earth energies with the emissions from electrical power lines, cell phone towers, and antennas and you have a very powerful program working either against you or for you.
Since empaths are sensitive to all types of energy, keeping your environment flowing with positive energy is very beneficial.

While writing my book, Whose Stuff Is This? ~ Finding Freedom from the Thoughts, Feelings, and Energy of Those Around You, I visited a restaurant in a section of downtown that has a lot of negative energy. As I parked my car in the public garage I suddenly felt vulnerable. I was walking down the sidewalk when I felt the presence of two malicious thugs behind me. The energy was so strong and repulsive, I turned around to see if someone was following me. I saw no one. I knew my guides were protecting me and I didn’t really feel afraid. I was simply aware. I thought no more about it as I met my husband for dinner.

On the way home, I had on the eyeglasses that I normally wear at my computer rather than the stronger prescription I need for nighttime driving. Plus, I experienced an unusual amount of traffic, my cell phone kept ringing, two people texted me, and one guy kept blowing his horn and flashing his lights at me. It wasn’t until I pulled off the interstate at my exit that I realized I had been driving without my headlights on.

Later that night when I went to bed, I felt angry and troubled. There had been a discrepancy about the bill and I thought I was still upset about that and my uneasy drive home. I let that energy go and felt better. However, I could not sleep because I kept sensing an unfamiliar presence. As I looked around my bedroom that moonlit night, I saw a dark cloud moving across the room. I didn’t feel concerned and only half believed there was really anything there. As I often do when I’m trying to fall asleep, I began meditating to help my body relax. My mind was racing, but I finally slept, only to awake at sunrise still feeling aggravated. I didn’t want to get up after only having five hours of sleep. So, I rolled over and dozed off.

When I got up an hour or so later I still felt perturbed. “What’s up with this?” I finally asked my guides. “You might want to do something about the entity you brought home last night.” It all made sense—the eerie presence near the parking garage, the crazy drive home, the aggravation. I immediately lit a sage bundle and smudged myself and my house and my car. That took care of the problem.

Depression as a Spiritual Transformation

Adapted from Dr. Judith Orloff’s new book “Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself From Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life” (Three Rivers Press, 2011)

Transforming depression is sacred work. My blood runs cold when I hear of people entering conventional psychotherapy for this emotion without a peep of spirituality mentioned as part of healing. Why is this such a damaging form of neglect? You deserve to have an illuminated appreciation of depression to justly dignify it.  Otherwise you’ll lack appropriate awe for what you’re going though. I believe, as do many spiritual traditions, that depression is the dark night of the soul, a term used by mystic priest Saint John of the Cross, describing his journey through despair to fuller holiness. Seeing depression this way reframes it. The "dark night" speaks to your soul’s development. It’s not just about a biochemical imbalance or a neglectful mother, though these may be the provokers. It’s a releasing of your ego's grasp on the psyche, permitting positive change that can prompt redefinition of the self. Since the period is profoundly unsettling, it’s commonly perceived as "darkness." Mystics consider the dark night of depression not a negative, but a test of faith, an occasion for transformation.

The dark night varies in intensity for each of us. It may last weeks or longer. Sometimes your depression may be all encompassing, or it can be less extreme. Whatever your experience of the dark night is, it’s invaluable to find a therapist or wise guide familiar with the divine nature of this terrain (see the Resources section). Then you won’t be at the mercy of some well-meaning but spiritually clueless practitioner who pathologizes your experience according to a dogmatic medical model. I stick close to my patients who’re undergoing the dark night. I want to lend a supportive, dependable voice. I want them to know they’re not alone, to show that depression leads to awakening. When patients say, “I’m questioning everything, I don’t know what’s important anymore,” I say, “Yes, to reevaluate is often excruciating, but it’s healthy.” When they say, “I feel too disconnected to meditate,” I say, “Don’t try to force yourself. You’ll get back to it again. To feel separate and adrift is a phase of depression.” My patient Pat lost her husband, the love of her life, when he suffered a fatal heart attack while being mugged. She asked me, “What kind of God would let this happen? How can I ever believe in one again?” I honored her anguish as it was. I responded, “Of course you can’t. There’s no need to.” Trying to make a case otherwise in the initial aftermath of such seemingly senseless, inconsolable loss would’ve been misguided and disrespectful.

I’m no Pollyanna, but what I’ve learned about the dark night is that it can organically incubate something drastically unexpected--and good--if you have the proper support. The emphatic “I can’ts” often evolve into surprising ways of viewing yourself and spirit even when everything in you argues against such possibility. After a year of grueling therapy, Pat bravely confronted her grief and depression, an ongoing pursuit. Having survived the very worst, she was now in a different place. Though she no longer defines God as a force outside herself, or indeed even uses the word, Pat now volunteers helping victims of violent crimes. Giving back is how she’s re-defined spirituality in this stage of our work together. Just as Pat sought my help to emerge from torment, not embittered but more whole, it’s imperative not to pass through the dark night alone. I wouldn’t wish that isolation on anyone. The danger of not reaching out is that you may stay painfully lost for a long time. During depression, you’ve got to look into eyes you trust. You’ve got to receive consistent, reliable counsel to keep moving ahead. Whenever I’ve been depressed, you’d better believe I’ve sought a spiritually canny guide to be there for me.

Oddly, the path to emotional freedom can sometimes wind in directions that may seem like the wrong way. I cherish Buddhist nun Pema Chodron’s position on the dark night:  “In the process of discovering our true nature, the journey goes down, not up, as if the mountain pointed toward the earth instead of the sky. We move down and down and down, and with us move millions of others, our companions in awakening …Right there we discover a love that will not die." During depression let this expanded awareness sanctify your passage and bring hope. Hope that depression will end. Hope that you’ll ascend from the depths, brighter, more open-hearted. Hope that you’ll gain deeper compassion for yourself and others.

Opening the Door to Spiritual Transformation

Spiritual transformation has to do with the inner life: the thoughts we think and the emotions that we feel. With an empath, these are already kicked into high gear so it’s a matter of calming them down and learning to manage them by seeing them as energy and knowing that you can do something about it.

Whenever you start feeling fearful, angry, or offended you have the power within you to make a choice. You have life force or creative power within you to shift your thoughts or emotion and feel something more positive and beneficial. I know it sounds magical, but you can do it if you just start practicing with one thing at a time. Catch the thoughts in your mind, pay attention when are you being critical and judgmental of yourself or others. Then ask for help from the holy spirit, angels, ascended masters, or the spirit beings that you feel comfortable with. Ask them to help you transform negative thoughts into peaceful, kind, and loving thoughts because whatever we send out, even as a thought, comes back to us and it activates the manifestation process. So if we’re thinking thoughts like “I’m depressed, or life is bad, or that person is so stupid,” you are judging that person, and this creates an energetic bomb to be launched on you as well as the other person. You could create a balm instead by hearing your own soul’s higher guidance in your thoughts and emotions. That’s why spiritual transformation or spiritual awakening has to begin from within your own thoughts and own emotions.

Here’s an example. Some business owner is convinced that people don’t like their products or that the products are not going to sell, this sends out a message to the universe and programs the whole situation around those products and business. Whatever thought we project is going to be picked up on by customers. I know that when I’m relaxed and allowing (in a non-resistant state of flow with Spirit), I know and believe that good things surround and support me. I can feel the presence of divine beings helping me.

There have been times when I’ve not been in that place and I feel like I’m not supported, that nobody cares, I’m always on my own, and I’m always having to take care of myself. Then, when I shift my beliefs, low and behold, things change! What are you thinking about today in regards to a situation that needs to be improved? What in your mind and feelings can shift to create a positive change?

Yvonne Perry is an empath coach, metaphysical teacher, spiritual author, and the host of We Are One in Spirit Podcast. In 2011, she published her book, Whose Stuff Is This? Finding Freedom of the Thoughts, Feelings, and Energy of Those Around You, in which she candidly discussed how we pick up energy around us, and how it affects us. It teaches how to identify our own energy versus the energy of people around us. She is available for private spiritual coaching and as a speaker for your group.

Divine Oneness

There are many spiritual paths that lead us “home” to our Creator. Regardless of what term we use to refer to this higher power or creative force, our ideas and beliefs are more similar that we realize. Our choice of terminology may divide us theologically and cause us to segregate into exclusive groups or denominations. Once we see how connected we really are and how we are all hoping to reach the same destination, we can learn to accept our oneness with God/Goddess/Source and learn to coexist peacefully as the sons and daughters of the Divine while respecting different ways of expressing our spiritual nature.

This topic is near and dear to my heart; thus, the name of my spiritual business and podcast: We Are One in Spirit. I have an opportunity to share this message on Sept 4th at 5 p.m. Pacific/6 p.m. Mountain/7 p.m. Central/8 p.m. Eastern. I hope you will be able to join me and Tonya Moyes as we discuss how we are one.  Enroll for free at http://yesiamwealth.com/
