Centering Your Energy

Being spiritually centered means living aligned with Spirit/Source instead of fear-based ego. By viewing life through spiritual eyes, you can see the bigger picture and feel peaceful while seeing all the possibilities that exist in a situation. When I am centered, I feel present in my body, expansive, one with Source and everything that exists. I am able to be present in my body and allow my emotions to surface so I may process them (non-resistant). I am able to tune out unwanted external noise and tune in to the gentle inner voice of intuition that helps me make better decisions.

I have included the centering exercise in the grounding exercise because they go hand in hand. One needs to be done with the other for maximum effect. Listen to the MP3 version of an exercise to ground and center your energy.

Grounding Your Energy to the Earth

Gini Grey (http://www.ginigrey.com) says it best, “Much like an electrical appliance needs to be grounded in order to operate properly, our body needs to have an energy connection to the earth in order to function optimally. Besides, it feels great to be grounded in the body! Since we naturally ground through the bottoms of our feet, it’s no wonder we feel more present, relaxed, and stable when we walk in nature or work in a garden. (There’s something therapeutic about working in the dirt or playing in the sand!) This energetic grounding cord is invisible to the naked eye, but it flows from the root chakra at the base of the spine and flows all the way down to the center of the earth. Simply bringing your awareness to it and intending to have it flow is all you need to do to ground your energy.”
Staying grounded in your own energy and bringing in higher vibrational energy is critical to empaths. Here are some very effective grounding and centering techniques that I use every day:

Imagine a wide cylinder of white light extending from the higher realms above you, encasing your body and aura. The light is going through you, and passing into the very center of the earth where it locks in place. You are surrounded by this light and nothing negative can penetrate it. Because this light is above you, in you, around you, and below you, it is grounding you to the earth’s energy, clearing your aura, and raising your vibration by connecting with higher realms.

Imagine that you are growing roots from the bottom of your feet that reach deep in the earth. These roots are flexible, so when you lift your feet, the roots follow you. See a cord of light (you choose the color) coming from your root chakra and extending deep into the earth.

Go outside and actually touch the ground with your hands or feet. Sit on the ground if weather and soil conditions permit. Visualize all the negative energy you have accumulated during the day moving out of your body through your hands, feet, or buttocks and going into the earth where it is absorbed and neutralized.

To experience the difference between being grounded and ungrounded, try this exercise that Gini Grey shares on her Web site, http://www.ginigrey.com:

Stand to your feet and consciously imagine having an energy cord going from your root chakra all the way down to the center of the earth. Allow it to be as wide as your hips. Notice how it feels in your body as you stand as still as possible. Now, lift one foot. You are probably pretty well balanced while grounded. Now, try purposely ungrounding your energy by pulling the grounding cord up or disintegrating it so you are no longer grounded. Now try standing on one foot and notice how you feel. Ground yourself again and notice the difference. When you are grounded, you feel deeply connected to yourself and at peace with everything around you.

Emotionally and Physically Detaching: A Tool for Empaths

An empath's best coping method is the ability to emotionally and physically detach from others or a situation. An empath is a feeler, but we know when we’ve reached our limit. If the emotional burden of another becomes too great, we can pull away without being hateful, angry, or upset with that person. It is an essential act of self-preservation that must be utilized.

I find that being in a crowd for a long period of time is still overwhelming for me sometimes. So, for social gatherings where there will be a lot of unfamiliar energy, I either stay near someone I know or engage in conversation with someone whose energy feels good—I generally gravitate toward children! If I start to feel overwhelmed, I’ll find a corner where I can observe the action without being antisocial or placing myself right in the middle of things. That allows me to take breaks without being missed while I go outside or to a quiet room to get away from the cacophony of energy. If my husband goes with me to a social event and I start feeling over stimulated, I can stand near him or hold his hand for a moment to help ground myself with his energy. If I do this several times, he knows I am ready to leave and will look for a way to politely say our goodbyes. If I am going to a function without my husband, I may drive my own car so I’m not stranded if I need to leave.

Drawing down & Pulling up Energy

We are made of elements of the Earth. When we do energy work, it is important not just to draw down energy from higher dimensions, but to ground that energy into the Earth. This will in turn pick up energy from the Earth and pull it into our bodies for stamina and abundance. It creates a circular flow.

For an easy exercise to help you do this, see grounding and centering steps here: http://whosestuffisthis.blogspot.com/2011/08/grounding-centering-steps-now.html. Feel free to download the free MP3 to guide you through the process.
