Being Empathic As a Child

Are you an empath? Do you feel other people’s emotions and their pain? On a more positive note, you may also feel their great joy when your heart opens up to someone next to you. Helping other people realize they have similar empathic experiences and how to use it to their benefit is very rewarding.

When Sheryl Glick was my guest on We Are One in Spirit Podcast, she spoke about empaths and spiritual gifts. I’ll share a few highlights from that interview here and you may listen to the entire interview at http://dld.bz/bqFzj.

Yvonne: Sheryl was an empath as a child, but was not aware of it. Her father, who is a doctor, was not aware of the depth of Sheryl’s sensitivity and neither were the teachers and medical people who dealt with her. So they only considered her to be a bright sensitive child. They thought she would outgrow the stomachaches, the anxious frightened feelings that she expressed to them on a regular basis. This discomfort she often experienced was not her own discomfort. She was very sensitive to the energy around her and to other people. Now that she knows how to work with it she helps herself and other people to be healthy, vibrant, and to use this as a spiritual gift to make people more comfortable with who they are. This great talent.

Sheryl: It’s a great gift from spirit. Some people will say it’s not because they don’t want to feel uncomfortable. But it’s a great way to learn about the world and yourself through having heightened senses and feelings. We’re here on this earth to have an emotional experience and to learn more about ourselves. We can’t always just feel the good feelings; sometimes we have to feel challenging experiences and energies so we can learn how to balance those energies and balance our physical life with it. Our soul and spiritual life become mature—we are both physical beings and spiritual beings.

Yvonne: Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly working with energy. If you are an empath, you are energy sensitive. The reason this is so draining and you feel so much discomfort is because you have not learned how to work with energy. Perhaps you’ve not learned how to use your upper chakras, like the six chakra (the third eye) or seventh chakra (cosmic input), to receive a picture rather than receiving sensory input in your body. Once you learn how to work with your upper chakras, you will not take so much into your second (sacral) and third (emotional) energy centers. You will be using your upper chakras and the information will be coming from source rather than from the person who is leaking or siphoning energy.

Sheryl: Let me give a little example about working with the lower chakras. When I was in college I went to the San Gennaro Fair in New York City. At this Italian festival there were so many people. All of a sudden my heart started to palpitate. I felt anxious in my stomach. I felt heavy in my legs. I felt pressure on my head. I said “What is this? Why am I feeling like this? This is a wonderful place.”

There was so many people, so many emotions—some happy, some angry, some fearful, some straining to buy something, someone making decisions—and it was just too much energy coming in for me at that point because I had no protection. I now know how to protect myself and help others to protect themselves in any situation. I could now go to that place without having a negative impact again because I know how to handle my own energy and the energy of other people. At that time I didn’t know what that was all about.

I’m sure there are many people listening today who have these sensitivities and think they are a hypochondriac perhaps, or they think there is something wrong with them. There’s nothing wrong with them. They are just very gifted people. Sensitives who have the need to develop this connection from Spirit can develop on all levels. Perhaps they can go from being an empath to an intuitive to a healer to a psychic and a medium because all these spiritual gifts are available to all of us. If we work and grow ourselves instead of blaming others and focusing on what other people are doing. We concentrate on learning more about what makes us vibrant and happy and fulfilled in this life.

Do You Let People Drain Your Energy?

I was one who was an intercessor in the church and you can imagine the stuff I picked up praying for people. It almost killed me before I realized what was happening. If you are walking through the supermarket when all of a sudden you start feeling really sad or angry that’s not your stuff. You don’t have to carry that. You can simply visualize a hose sucking that detrimental energy out of you and your aura into a ball. Then imagine you are tossing that ball into the air while asking Saint Germaine to transmute it with the violent flame. It’s that simple and it happens immediately.

Now if you get a bad hit, say from somebody who is trying to drain your energy, you may suddenly start feeling sick, depressed, or angry. You don’t have to take that kind of abuse. If somebody was trying to break into your house you wouldn’t just stand there and open the door for them. You would barricade it, call the cops, or do whatever you needed to keep out the intruder. When you say NO to psychic vampires who are leeching off your energy, you are setting a boundary and saying, “This is my space, my stuff, and you stay out of it.” If people are trying to leech off your energy or trying to drain you or toss their sickness onto you, it’s just as rude as them coughing on you intentionally while knowing they have a virus. So you would stop that, wouldn’t you? Well, you can do the same thing energetically when somebody is trying to siphon from you. Talk to them and their guides spirit to spirit by imagining them sitting in front of you. Or write a letter and then burn it without giving it to them. This sets an energetic boundary and is very effective because we are one in spirit and we can speak to one another without having a conflict in person (or by phone, email, etc.) Everything is energy and what we’re learning is the right use of energy. Incorrect use of energy would be allowing it to drain you.

Many empaths go into the health care industry or are caregivers, who are among the sick and suffering all the time. Without proper education on how to manage energy, these precious souls burn out quickly; it can be extremely draining. How did Jesus, as an empath, manage to stay strong while in the midst of the sick and the outcast of society? How can you control how much of your energy you give away in these kinds of situations?

What was Jesus doing when he was not with his disciples or when he wasn’t with the crowds or teaching? The Bible says over and over again that he was praying. There’s the key, the spiritual connection. Jesus knew that he was one with God—a divine individuation of God, just as we are. Even though he knew this, he also realized he had to maintain his connection in the midst of all the distractions and the sickness and suffering around him. He knew that his success was in his spiritual purification processes and his prayer effort that enhanced his divine connection. He had to keep that line open at all times in order to know the will of God in each situation. That’s his example to us; it’s a gift. Anytime we are feeling out of sync or feeling drained it’s an indication or a message that we need to pray or do some deep breathing, go for a walk in nature, or do something to pull away from the crowd and connect with Spirit.

When Compassion Becomes Toxic

When understanding and caring for others goes overboard, it can violate the energetic boundaries of others; then it is unhealthy because we become enmeshed with that person and we no longer see the situation with clarity. We can get dragged down with the mental and emotional energy and forget to care for our own spirit and body. This is known as codependency.

It's much better to transmute the suffering of others than to become entangled in it. The way to do this is to focus on the God-Light within you rather than seeing the person as pitiful or the situation as impossible. Everything we see in our outer world is a reflection of what is going on in our inner world (thoughts and emotions). We create our own drama for a reason and as long as it serves us to indulge in harmful behaviors, we will continue to do so. This is why so many people come to a "dark night of the soul." The God-consciousness within will either leave us to our own destructive devices or create a difficult situation in order to draw our attention to what needs to be changed in the mind and emotions.

Many people say that empaths can't help from picking up energy. That is a false assumption held in position by the lower self, which wants to keep us in bondage to fear. Empaths can't help from recognizing and sensing energy, but we can and MUST stop allowing detrimental thoughts and discordant emotions to rule us if we are ever going to master our body and ascend into purer consciousness.

I've written a book for empaths: Whose Stuff Is This? ~ Finding Freedom from the Thoughts, Feelings, and Energy of Those Around You (http://whosestuffisthis.blogspot.com/p/purchase-book.html). Chapter 10 teaches highly-sensitive people how to set boundaries with people who want to siphon energy from others. Becoming mature as an empath means learning to wisely manage energy and nip discord in the bud without allowing it to grow from the first emotional impression or mental thought that is stimulated when you encounter negativity.

Shifting into Purer Consciousness ~ Integrating Spiritual Transformation with the Human Experience. (http://shiftingintopurerconsciousness.com). In this book about the end of the age of Pisces, I talk about how to transmute suffering while denying discordant thoughts and negative emotions the right to infiltrate your inner world.

Are You Addicted to Fear? Learn How Not To Be!

If you don't make it your business to overcome fear, you better believe it'll try to overcome you. Most people are subservient to this emotion though they may not know it. I define fear as the emotional response to danger, perceived or real. What underscores fear in all its permutations is the feeling that you won't be all right.

Emotional Action Step from "Emotional Freedom". Harness Your Biology to Quiet Fear.
To short-circuit fear and turn off your flight-or-flight response, you'll need to train your brain to send chemicals to counteract them. Otherwise, fear and its hormones will make you crazed. In contrast, with a calm biology it's easier to find courage by practicing the combined techniques below to quiet your system.

To achieve immediate and longer term results:

  • Eliminate caffeine, sugar, and other stimulants--these fuel the fight-or-flight response.
  • Avoid people who reinforce your fear--they are biological irritants; stick close to emotional nurturers.
  • Stay away from violent newscasts, traffic jams, arguments, or other stress inducers.
When you're in the grip of a fear-driven adrenaline rush, try these quick solutions.

  • Use this Progressive Relaxation Technique: In a comfortable position, sitting or lying down, take a few deep breaths while letting your body go as limp as possible. When you're ready, begin by tightening the muscles in your toes...hold to a count of ten... then relax. Enjoy the relief of tension melting. Do the same with flexing your foot muscles, and move slowly through your entire body: calves, legs, stomach, back, neck, jaw, face, contracting and releasing each area.
  • Immerse yourself in hot water to relax muscular tension as soon as possible.
Adapted from Dr. Judith Orloff’s new book “Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself From Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life” (Three Rivers Press, 2011)

These practical changes, which allow you to take control of your body, can be tremendously effective in restoring calm. You don’t have to be passive while battered by fear. The victim mentality takes many forms. It requires courage to assume control, to say, “I’m going to be responsible for my biological self-care.” Educating your body how to respond makes you emotionally freer.

Empaths Becoming More Aware

One empath I spoke with said he is becoming more aware of the energy around him and the spiritual gifts he has. Yet at the same time he has been somewhat afraid of it. For him, this stems from religious philosophies, which told him that these are not gifts of God—that they are really from the devil. You may have been brought up to believe that these types of sensitivities are evil, but at the same time (even as a child) you’ve had awareness, sensations, feelings, or inner knowings. If so, you may be a little conflicted about how to approach their use. Perhaps you haven’t tried to develop these gifts because you are afraid you’ll go too far or don’t know what kind of boundaries you should set.

First let’s take a look at a beloved teacher, Jesus. Once he was in a crowd of people when a woman touched the hem of his garment. Instantly he knew virtue (healing energy) had gone out of him and he asked, “Who touched me?” He was that sensitive! He felt it when someone was tapping into his electromagnetic field even though she only touched his clothing! I remind you of the verse that tells us that every good and perfect gift, spiritual gifts, comes from God. There are many spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 13: the gift of prophecy, the gift of tongues, the gift of the interpretation of tongues, discerning of spirit, healing, working of miracles, etc. These are listed for our benefit so we understand that we have been gifted in some way. And there’s a responsibility to use those gifts with love. We weren’t given these gifts to hide them from the world or be afraid of them. They are tools to help us and others. When we have these intuitive gifts, it is very important to nurture our own spirit and set boundaries to keep from being bombarded by energy from everybody out there. We must love ourselves before we can love others or else there’s nothing to give. Spending time with God-Goddess is like refueling a car. You can’t run very long without more juice!

When Jesus was walking the Earth some people wanted to stone him some wanted to throne him. There was a vast difference in perspective and what people thought of him. We empaths have that same dilemma. Other people may not understand you. Maybe they are afraid of the gifts you have. Through our religious teachings we have been taught that the discerning of spirits or being able to communicate with those in the afterlife is of the devil. I’ve been called a necromancer by a close member of my family. Obviously, my gifts are not appreciated there. Does that stop me from using them? No, I use them because I have been given these gifts and I have a responsibility to use them wisely; and that’s what I intend to do. Do I flaunt them in front of my disapproving family members? No, that’s what the Bible refers to as casting your pearls before swine. I'm not calling anyone a pig. I'm saying that there’s no need in putting something so valuable out there and allowing your gifts and sensitivities to be trampled. You can decide who you reveal your gifts to and who you use them with. In fact I’ve made it a practice that unless I have permission to pray for someone I just don’t do it. You can easily get your energy tangled up in someone else’s by meddling energetically in another person’s stuff.

Some people have a great sensitivity to energy and they see things or get impressions. They may intuitively know what is going on in another person’s life. You are not obligated to help every person you encounter, but there is something you can do. Before you decide to get involved pray about it. Breathe deeply for a few minutes and ask yourself if you should do/say anything about what you have discovered. How do you feel when you think of saying something or offering to help? Does it feel right? Do you have pain anywhere in your body or emotions? If so, avoid getting involved on a human level. If a person has not asked you to help them, they may not want your help. Do you feel lighter, joyful, or happy when you think of helping this person or mentioning what you have discerned? If so, ask for wisdom about what to do and how to approach the person.

If you keep thinking of someone and sense they need help, you may or may not need to approach them on a human level. You can always send love and light to guide their way. Simply call upon the angels to help. Imagine a beautiful beam of light coming from the cosmos, maybe pink or green. Pink represents the heart or love; green represents healing. See this beam of light going toward and surrounding the person in need. This powerful energy is like a stem cell that has divine intelligence and knows where it is needed and what to do when it gets there. This not only gives them energy to work with, it gives them clarity so they can make good decisions. They may be able to feel that strength undergirding and supporting them. If something needs changing, they can apply that energy however they want to. If it’s healing, if it’s a relationship, if it’s emotional/mental issue, it doesn’t matter, the love and light is universal. Just send that energy and let them do with it what they want as spirit directs them. By sending love and light, you are not trying to manipulate any outcome or change anything in another person’s circumstances or life. You’re not violating their free will or “fixing” a situation their soul has created from which to learn its lesson. Sending positive energy to someone is like leaving a gift on their doorstep. It provides what they need but they never know who sent the gift and you won’t have to take on other people’s stuff. You will know who and when you need to help as well as how. If you follow your inner guidance, you’ll intuitively know how far you need to go with your help and what you need to do to strengthen your own boundaries.

If someone asks you to pray for them, then you have a responsibility to use your gifts. But, rather than using your body or emotional center (third chakra) to feel and sense, use your sixth chakra, which is also called the third eye, to see or know where you need to direct energy. It’s when we try to operate out of our own emotions and our own physical strength that we are going to be drained. But when we operate from divine power, the place of the sacred heart, it’s not us doing the work; we’re simply being a conduit. We are able to be the light, and by being the light, we’re being God. And we don’t have to worry about backlash or be concerned about what other people think.

So if you are worried about what you have been taught regarding your intuitive gifts or concerned about what other people are saying, remember where the laws of God are written. The laws that the psalmist David was talking about are not written on tablets of stone or in a book, nor are they found in religion. They are written in your heart. If something doesn’t feel right, and you have conflict about it, always go with the truth your heart reveals to you.

Feeling the Energy of Certain Places

Mt. Shasta, the Himalayas, Sedona, and other places around the world have a high vortex of extraordinary energy that you can feel when you are there. As empaths, we can feel energy anywhere—good, bad, or indifferent. We even feel the energy at the Wal-Mart! When some empaths walk into a shopping center they may suddenly get very sluggish because the energy is very heavy whenever people are making a lot of choices. Decisions about spending money, may generate a feeling of lack, anger, or fear. They see someone wearing a nice outfit and perhaps there is jealousy. There are a lot of negative or lower vibrations in public places—some tend to have more harmful or uncomfortable unpleasant energies than others. But, sensitive people can feel all of it.

It’s important to focus on the positive, uplifting energy of your own divinity within you whenever you are in public. Think of how you feel the wonderful divine energy when you are in the beauty of nature! Mentally go there to rejuvenate and renew yourself by feeling grateful, blessed, loved, and happy. By spending five minutes in your Sacred Heart Center before you leave home, you can carry this high-vibrational energetic signature with you all day. It will beam forth from your heart full of love. A cup that is overflowing cannot receive anything more, it must spill over. And, since your fullness is from an unlimited Source, you never have to run dry; you can continually be filled with Spirit.

Let Your Yes Be Yes and Your No Be No

Say the word “yes” right now to yourself.  Yes.  That vibration is what we get when we are excited about helping people, or healing, which is what many would say we are born to do.  What happens is we get out of balance when we say yes too often or want to help too much.
No is a very powerful tool in setting boundaries.  And, who doesn’t want better boundaries?  One of the ways to create this magical state is to learn to say “no.”  Think of the situations in your life right now where perhaps you’ve been saying yes too much.  This may give you a feeling in the pit of your stomach or a feeling in your gut that is asking you to do the opposite. This vibration may cause you to start thinking, “Hmmmm, maybe I should say no.” Maybe spirit or my highest self is asking you to say no for the sake of yourself and everyone else.
If we don’t have respect and boundaries for ourselves as empaths, we’re not going to be much help to others.  I encourage you to make a pledge to yourself that you are no longer going to do _____ (whatever your gut is saying you’re doing too much of).  For some if may be as simple as refusing to engage someone in a 5-minute conversation—maybe they are asking you for some kind of advice.  This is real common, we all have co-workers, loved ones, family, and friends who call upon us because we have healing ability.  People are for the most part naturally drawn to empaths. We’re magnetic and people want our energy or input.
It might be as simple as just saying “no” and walking away from a 2- to 5-minute conversation. You know that those 5-minute conversations can attack your nervous system. Many develop chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. These diseases in which are energetic origin and manifest in many empaths as the result of over engagement.  When we perpetually over engage, our nervous systems shut down over time. It tries to protect us by shutting the chakras or meridians so we don’t take on too much. It’s attempting to slow us down. It’s important that you listen to your gut and learn to say no.

Is the Energy of Others Draining You?

Empaths are reporting that they can sense a deep emotional connection to other people. Sometimes it’s very draining and they are not sure how to deal with it.

Empaths are energy sensitive beings; that is part of who we are and we’re always going to be that way. However, there is a way you can filter the energy and calm it down and have your own personal peace so you are able to radiate peace from within. In chapter 9 of Whose Stuff Is This?, I give a list of things that people can do to help ground and center the energy they are dealing with and I give some visualization techniques that can be used to work with energy. People have reported that these exercises are really helping them. That’s because they raise the vibration not only of your body but also your auric field and your soul’s vibration. So the detrimental things around you tend to bounce off.
If you are familiar with the Bible you may recall the scripture about putting up a shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of the evil one. We’re not calling anyone evil but we do have an electromagnetic field around us that can be strengthened with some spiritual purification practices such as deep breathing, prayers or meditation, affirmations, or grounding and centering exercises. So when that detrimental energy comes to us it hits that field like a bubble, which is flexible and is not going to pop like a soap bubble. It’s more like amniotic fluid surrounding a baby; it cushions and protects the beautiful life within. It’s the same way with us; when our aura (field) is strengthened, we are not as impacted by the environment outside of our bubble.

Many times empaths allow their auras to be thin and they pick up a lot of stuff. They tend to mesh their our field with other people’s fields, especially on a crowded subway, on a bus, or in a shopping mall where there is a cacophony of energy running wild. These are the places where empaths are the most uncomfortable. When there is a large crowd of people or there is a large crowd of people in a situation where there is a lot of grief or mourning going on, we tend to pick that up quite easily.

Some of those exercises in my book will definitely help strengthen the aura. There are some practices on whosestuffisthis.com that will help people to be able to put up better boundaries. I’m not going to say protective barriers because we’re not walling off anybody and there’s really nothing to be protected from; it is a good practice to maintain your own energy field and body so you can continue to do the work that you’ve been called to do.

When I pick up something that I know is not mine, I realize now that I’ve gotten it for the purpose of transmuting that energy. One way to do that is to call on the ascended master Saint Germaine and the violent flame of transmutation. I imagine that any detrimental energy within me is being drawn outward and into a ball of light. It’s coming out of my field and out of my body into a ball of light. Then I toss the ball into the air and allow Saint Germaine to zap it with the violet flame and transmute it into love, joy, peace, happiness—all the positive things that we want more of on the planet. You’re using a higher frequency by calling on an ascended master. You are not keeping it in your body or in your field where it could to do more damage.

On whosestuffisthis.com there are resources, articles, visualizations, books, and other things that can help empaths start understanding how to use energy.

The Empath and the Internet

The Pleiadian Light through Hannah Beaconsfield Question: Do people who are empaths have as difficult a time when surfing the Internet as they do when they pick up energies from other individuals, places or groups of people?

First, we wish to point out that your current designation of “empaths” who have difficulties when taking on outside energies defines a person who is in a state of transition. Those who are sensitive and open to picking up other people’s energy and feelings are in the process of developing expanded perceptions on many different levels.

The empaths who are discomforted by other people’s feelings and energies are learning by way of their reactions that, first of all, these are not their feelings; they have been taken on from others. This creates the awareness of the phenomenon for empaths and then opens a way to hold expanded perceptions but still maintain their own power base, personal integrity and freedom from unwanted attachments.

In other words, the empath “feels the pain” of others, initially, to help them recognize their abilities. The discomforts prime them to search for a means of self-protection and to use the gift to aid the ascension of others, as well as themselves.

Empaths need to be like a sturdy pitcher, which can take on and hold any liquid without effect or changes to their own form and substance. The pitcher/empath may then pour the liquid back to the world around them as a means of disseminating information or they may transmute the liquid/data and then pour it back to the world in an altered form. This could be transmuting dark aspects or illnesses and integrating them with positive energy.

There are many who are offering advice on how to protect oneself and use the gift constructively. If you are an uncomfortable empath, ask the universe to guide you to a source with which you feel most aligned in order to learn how to use your abilities and still protect yourself. Grounding is imperative, as it is with all elements of the transformational process.

A number of years ago we wrote about empaths as “good Samaritans” who helped others with their burdens. We stand by this concept as one of the means by which empathetic skills can be of value to others. This is one of the basic patterns of life relationships. Parents will take on difficult situations so their children don’t have to. Your current Earth life may take on circumstances for a former incarnation in order to resolve conditions that couldn’t be handled in the previous life. And even your animal companions will take on some challenges to relieve the burdens you carry. In this way the Samaritan concept applies to the situation.

Now, as to the effects of the internet on empaths: When you step into cyberspace, it is like entering a foreign country. Although, for the most part, your language is spoken in this land and you are becoming more and more familiar with the terrain. There are still many areas of this virtual world that are like strange towns with people who may be very different from you. You don’t really know what kinds of energies they generate and radiate and how they may affect you.

The ordinary 3D person, with dense vibrations, generally skips from one site to another oblivious of any potential problems and without ill effects. For empaths, however, this can be another source of possible difficulties. You call this foreign country a “virtual reality,” which is a reality that has all the effects of the material world that you know, without actually fulfilling the definition as such. If the empath operates from a deep sense of unity, which is the true nature of all that is, they are open to picking up vibrations, feelings or intensions from any source including those received through the internet. Therefore, the empath is vulnerable to this virtual world the same as their every day living plane.

Empaths may find that they feel uncomfortable or ill after they have been on line. The reactions may vary depending on what sites have been visited, as they would when visiting different parts of a strange city. There may be tension in the neck, shoulders or lower back from unconsciously resisting energies. More and more Earth individuals will be facing these experiences as they enter the ascension process because it involves opening to new energy levels across the board.

The help for this circumstance is the same as it is for handling anything in your work-a-day world: You recognize what is happening and then you learn and institute protective measures. Eventually this skill will not be felt as an intrusion into your own reality. Those who do take on the form of empathy that allows for symptoms and feelings to be absorbed, will do so consciously for the purpose of transmuting energies for healing and other forms of transformation. When the changes are complete and the healing or other results have taken place in the subject, the empath simply releases the connection and no longer experiences any residue of the subject’s problem.

As we stated earlier, each empath must seek the best method suited to their individuality to protect themselves and still channel their gifts constructively. Each time the empath prepares to go on line, they need to take a moment to meditate or pray, asking that their individual unit is held sacrosanct when exposed to disrupting energies. This is the same as they would do when they prepare to interact with their living plane world or confront difficult people.

Remember we are always close by to help you, as are other members of your ET family, angels, and other personal power sources. You have a huge backup of benign energies working with you. You are never handling these challenges alone. We wish you Peace.

[Note from the channel: I recently read a meditation by Cathy Chapman who channels Amma. I’ll paraphrase it here as I adjusted it for my own use.

Many of us focus on Archangel Michael as a source of protective energy. I’ve asked to use his sword to sever negative attachments and create a protective shield. Cathy Chapman’s channeling pushes this type of request to a new level that I found immediately powerful.

She suggests that you touch your heart center using Archangel Michael’s sword, activating unconditional love energy and setting the chakra spinning. You then absorb the essence of the sword into your heart and say with all the power inherent in this vision, “I AM THE SWORD!”

The strength of the vision is in becoming the power source as opposed to being the passive recipient of help from an outside energy. I live in New York City and am hit with all sorts of energies the moment I step out side. I have been using this imagery and these words and I’m amazed at how effective it is.

If you want to read Cathy Chapman’s article containing this information, it is in the February 2012 issue of The Sedona Journal of Emergence.]

When Both Partners in a Relationship Are Empaths

Today’s post is the eighth in a series of helpful articles for highly-sensitive people. The full presentation was given February 14, 2012 by Yvonne Perry in the Fizzle to Sizzle Relationship Telesummit hosted by Live-Spirit.com. You may listen to the entire presentation by clicking the arrow in the player below.

This is an especially vulnerable relationship because whatever one is feeling and picking up from public venues or other people is then shared with the partner and both of them feel bad.
Empaths tend to be somewhat codependent to begin with, so it’s natural to blame ourselves when someone else is upset; or we may try to fix the situation or calm the other person. We fear rocking the boat or making things worse, so many times we absorb our partner’s emotional energy into the cells of our body or the electromagnetic field surrounding our body. These energetic burdens can make an empath emotionally and physically sick. When both partners are empaths, they share this misery to a whole new degree of suffering!

But there are benefits to two empaths being in a relationship. Things can work out well if both empaths recognize what is going on with one another and each is actively pursuing spiritual purification practices to clear the energy from their body and auric fields. It’s when neither partner is diligent about keeping their auric field clear that real trouble manifests. Once each partner understands their gift and begins practicing the right use of energy as outlined in the exercises today and the teachings of this telesummit, you will understand one another better than anyone else on the planet. You both have experienced what it’s like to be dragged down by energetic burdens and now with these new tools, you will be able to remind one another to stay focused on transmuting detrimental energy using purer forms of energy rather than allowing the body, mind, and emotions as a punching bag!

There is no need to wall off emotionally from your partner. You will be able to open your heart to divine love without the fear of getting hurt again. Whenever your protection mechanism urges you to avoid getting too close to your partner, you can remind yourself to be filled with love and light from the sacred heart space. Being filled, you can then allow that love to flow through you without siphoning from your partner to get your needs met. You can enjoy being sexually intimate with him or her because being in close proximity merges your auric fields, which you are both keeping clear. This compounds and intensifies the loving, heightened emotional energy of both partners. If one is carrying negativity, the positive charge of the other partner can lift this by sending it to the flame of St. Germaine.

If you are an empath is it imperative that you manage your own energy regardless of what your partner does. You can remind your partner to practice what you’ve learned today, but you can only carry so much for your partner without it wearing you down. Carrying the detrimental energy that you pick up from your partner is a sure way to lose your own identity, miss your higher purpose, and create more personal suffering and relationship misery than is necessary. Don’t be afraid of setting boundaries with your partner who is not pulling his or her weight in this double-empath relationship. I realize that saying “no” to someone is difficult. We fear that if the person responds with an unpleasant emotion that we will take into our personal auric field. You don’t have to do that.

There are no victims in a relationship. Both partners have agreed at some level to participate in the drama they create. It is up to you to see yourself as an empowered individual with a divine mission to accomplish and to do whatever is necessary to get yourself to a safe and healthy place in life. I’m living proof that you don’t have to allow the gift of empathy to drain you or control your destiny.

In closing, remember to focus on the love within yourself, not on your problems. Anyone can do this by opening to sacred love that resides within their own heart. To know that your soul is infused with love and feel the joy of living in union with the I AM presence brings true healing and a revelation of the ascended version of your soul. In that rendition, the heaviness, fatigue, discomfort, or illness you may be experiencing now does not exist. The energy for helping making this shift is here now.
